Changes in cabin pressure

The rate of change of cabin pressure in a modern passenger jet is very low.  Nonetheless, passengers who have colds, and young infants with poorly developed eustachian tubes, find it difficult to transfer air into the middle ear cavity during the descent.  This produces pain and discomfort during the descent.

Fear of flying

Despite all the statistical evidence, and the spread of air travel to the mass market, there are still many people who are scared of flying.  This contributes very significantly to one of the commonest causes of in-flight medical problems, namely hyperventilation.

Now let's consider how we manage in-flight medical emergencies.  The first resource is MedLink Phoenix.
